About

The Italian Interest Group (“IIG”) was founded by Mary in 1990 as a SIG of the Eastside Genealogical Society, our 501(c)(3) parent society in Bellevue, Washington (near Seattle). In 2020 the IIG switched to all-virtual meetings, welcoming attendees from around the U.S. and the world.

We offer learning at the highest level from expert speakers, supporting both seasoned researchers and beginners. Our meetings begin promptly with a professional presenter speaking on Italian genealogical research or an Italian family history-related topic, followed by a Q&A session with the speaker giving you the opportunity to “ask the expert.” We end with a short discussion or help session.

Select Recent Presentations Include:
– Finding Italian Parish Records
– Italian Censuses and Tax Censuses
– Italian Civil Records – Diversi, Parte Due/Seconda & Cittadinanza
– Italian Military Records, including lesser-known records
– Italian Foodways and Oral History (speaker from Italy)
– Italian Case Study – Finding a Missing Ancestor
